Describes and interrogates two moments in Latin American literary and cultural history, from Borges to the as yet under-theorized "present." Issues explored will include: difficult versus easy ("lite") forms of writing and their relationship to representations of the writer and reader, to literary history and the canon, the market, popular culture, national and ethnic identity, gender and genre. Letter grade only. Prerequisites: SPAN101 PO.
